Goodbye Poppy

I was meaning to be faithful to this new blog, but circumstances over the past week and a half have rocked us pretty hard. J.s father passed away early last week and we've all taken it pretty hard. He was a good man, and it was so early for him to leave this world.

Poppy, you are missed by all of us!

Developmental Follow Up

C. and M. had a developmental appointment this afternoon that was supposed to be scheduled when they reached 6 months (adjusted) which would have been back at the end of July. When they were discharged from the NICU they wanted us to set up the appointment to evaluate where they are but we had to cancel that appointment when J. took his new position they helped us set up an appointment at a new clinic.

Let me just say, the experience could have been much better. We had to wait for almost an hour just to be seen and then the appointment itself took a couple of hours. I was rather peeved with everyone involved by the end of it all. On the bright side, however, we couldn't be happier with the results. They both saw a physical and occupational therapist who conducted their developmental tests, a speech therapist, and an audiologist so they could get their hearing tested. When all was said and done we met with the neonatologist and pediatrician to discuss the results.

They both passed with flying colors!!

Not only are they right on track with their adjusted age, but they are very close to their actual age developmentally wise. It doesn't look as though any routes of therapy will be necessary and I can't tell you how much it feels like a huge weight has been lifted from my shoulders. I don't think I realized how nervous I still was, even now that we've been watching them thrive for 9 months and counting, that we could be missing something. I am very proud of how far they have come. We have another appointment scheduled in 9 months.

And before I forget, here are our littler porkers stats!

C. - 17 lbs. 9 oz.
M. - 18 lbs. 5 oz.

What will you celebrate?

Celebrate Today

If you haven't heard by now, birthdays are a big thing to do at Disneyland (and Disney World for that matter) this year. Why? do you ask? Because you can get in for free, silly!! I can honestly say that I jumped for joy last year when this promotion was first announced. We are, in fact, a very big Disney family and free admission on your birthday was just a big old gift to us. Even living 6 hours away when we first found out, we knew right off the bat that we would find time to take advantage of this offer at least once in 2009.

If for some reason you have yet to hear of this amazing deal by Disney, then please pay attention now. Here is what you do:

1. Register any birthdays on the Disney website (you must be 18 or older to register).
2. Take the confirmation email that you will be sent at least 2 weeks prior to your birthday and a picture ID (or a birth certificate for your children) to the park to receive your free one day admission.

See, easy peasy.

Admittedly there is one glaringly obvious downside to this whole promotion, you can't just decide hey, I'm going to get free admission on any random old day of the year. You must be at the park on your exact birthday, otherwise you are just out of luck.

If you happen to be in the boat that J. and I are in and currently are in possession of AP's (annual passes, Disney speak for season tickets) or you already plan on buying multi-day park hoppers before your visit and have no need for the free admission you do have other options:

1. 1 free ticket to use any day of your choosing within 1 calendar year.
2. Your choice between one of two Fast Pass packs that offer you and up to 5 members of your party the chance to skip the long lines of a few select rides.
3. A birthday "fun card" that is worth the cost of 2 day admission. *****

Take a guess which of the three is my favorite!!!!

I couldn't think of a better place to take B. for her 4th birthday yesterday than Disneyland. Our second Princess loved spending part of her special day at Disneyland, just her and me! She got to have lunch with her favorite Disney Princess (Ariel) and she got to pick out her very own birthday present with her magic fun card of $62.

Thank you Disney!!

Welcome to my life!

It seems I have been bit by the blogging bug again! Hey, at least it's not the baby bug again that seems to be going around with everyone in my life!

It's been quite a few months since I've been on the blogging scene. In fact, if memory serves me correctly the Twincesses (C. & M.) were only a couple of weeks old and still in the NICU the last time I ever wrote anything on a blog. My, oh my! how things have changed.

To do a quick round up and catch anyone up to date on our girls (or to give a reference/starting point to anyone who is jumping on board):

Cameron & Mackenzie. are 9 1/2 months old (7 1/2 months adjusted) and thriving as far as I'm concerned. We'll see just how far they have come at their next appointment, which should be on Monday! It will be their first appointment with their new pediatrician thanks to the move. It was such a sad day when we had to say goodbye to everyone who has helped them get to where they are today back "home" in the Bay Area. Keep your fingers crossed for nothing but good news and no mention of therapy!

Tallulah is rapidly approaching 21 months old! Let me just say that she is a trouble-making toddler to her core, and I can already tell she's going to be giving us a run for our money for years to come. She's very talkative (she's got about 200 words in English and about 100 words in German under her belt already, and can get some 3-5 word sentences out), and she NEVER sits down! Or at least it feels that way. She's always running around and she has recently discovered the joys of jumping.

Brianna is tomorrow's birthday girl, and believe it or not she will be 4 years old. It will be a very fun day. She and I will be taking a special mommy-daughter day trip to Disneyland (jump for AP's - I mean joy!!) so she can have a special lunch with the Princesses and since we don't need the free admission we'll be picking up her birthday gift card so she can pick herself out some presents. Who wants to bet it will be a new princess dress! She still loves swimming, just like her mommy, but she's also recently discovered a new love - gymnastics!! She's pretty darn good too, and had to show off at the beach with her daddy yesterday. She's actually really excited about starting a new preschool in just a couple of weeks. Let's hope she still enjoys it after her first day. Only one more year until she'll be off to Kidnergarten!

Kalis is still the my first baby, even though she's getting all grown up. She's 6 1/2 now, and I swear she's already acting like a teenager. She hasn't been too happy with the move and I don't blame her, but she's been settling in a lot lately. She'll be heading back to school right after Labor Day, which is so close I can taste it! She's always loved school so I'm sure once she has her first day and gets to make a few new friends everything will be right in the world again.

And those are our girls. Jeremiah and I are very proud of our ... brood. Haha, I had to go there. I need a way to chronicle the chaos of our lives as young parents to 5 girls. You'd better hold on to your seats because it is always a bumpy ride!

And remember ... Always laugh over spilled paint!
